Buildings built with 3D printing are very close

3D printing is already present in a wide range of industries, from aerospace to dentistry. Machines that build using printed layers of synthetic materials can be used to create parts manufactured to exact specifications at the push of a button. This type of system offers clear advantages to the construction industry.

However, 3D printing buildings has been challenging, especially in projects that require tall and large-scale constructions. This is where the Evo Constructor project (A fully robotic and 3D printing solution for large-scale building delivery), funded under the Horizon 2020 program, comes into play.

The project team has developed a 3D printer capable of creating large-scale buildings using a mobile robotic system that can adapt to the chosen environment.

“For fifty years, the same construction methods have been used. We had to start from scratch to design a new construction system based on full automation of all building processes,” says Daniel Lorenzo Pellico, CEO of EVOCONS Constructora and coordinator of the Evo Constructor project.

The Evo Constructor project is developing a robotic 3D printing solution for constructing large-scale buildings, allowing for the automation of most construction processes.

Evo Constructor can produce buildings and other large civil infrastructures. “It could build a house or even a shopping mall,” says Pellico.
